Hey all! So, the closure of gyms since the Covid-19 outbreak has been a huge issue for many. For some, the gym is their place to wind down after a long day, blow off steam, or simply, just a place to freely workout.
The closure of the gyms has definitely been hard for me personally but finding new fun ways to create workouts from home has also been a good time.
Anyway, what leads me to this topic is the fact that a New York City fitness chain that closed due to the pandemic is still collecting monthly fees from club members.
New York Sports Club said in Manhattan Federal Court when the matter was discussed that holding onto these monthly dues until the reopening of the gym was, “excessively difficult for customers to cancel their memberships during this difficult time,” according to Market Watch news,
The monthly payments range from $30-$120 according to the article. According to the article, customers were trying to get in touch with the company to get her money back but had no success.
It is insane to me that gyms were still taking out monthly payments when clearly customers can’t use the gym. Especially since in this time many people aren’t working it is super insensitive to be taking money from these gym goers.
