Hey all! So I chose to interview my sister for this post. My sister and I are both health conscious people and share many of the same feelings toward exercise and a healthy lifestyle so I couldn’t think of a better person to interview.
My sister isn’t a professional by any means but she is well informed on the topic of fitness and has learned things over the years.
I chose to ask my sister, Ashley Burch, 26, five questions regarding fitness and quarantine and see what she had to say.
Without further ado, my interview questions and Ashley’s responses…
Interview with Ashley
What have you been doing to stay active during quarantine?
“During quarantine I have mostly stayed active by doing yoga and walking. I don’t have many weights at my house.”
Has the closure of gyms had an effect on you? If so, what was that effect?
“Closing gyms has highly effected me. I use to go after work or on my days off to use the weighted machines or free weights which I don’t have at my house.”
What does fitness / exercise mean to you?
“Fitness and exercise is for my mental and physical health. It means wanting to be my best self as well as taking care of my body.”
How has your motivation changed, if at all, from before quarantine to now, and why?
“My motivation is EXTREMELY low. I use to want to work on my fitness but with the stress of not working and not having gyms open I find it harder to motivate myself.”
What would you suggest to people at home who are trying to stay active?
“I would suggest to motivate yourself to also motivate others. Personally I follow a lot of health and wellness accounts on Instagram that help to motivate me. I also try to motivate people when I do my work outs to help motivate my friends and family too.”
Takeaway
As Ashley laid out, exercise is very important not only for physical health but mental health as well. She also included that she has been struggling with motivation during quarantine which seems to be a trend among many. However, she tries to stay motivated by following certain accounts that promote a healthy lifestyle. Sharing her workouts with others also helps to motivate her which again, is a common trend. Being able to bond with others over your successes can be a huge motivational boost for both parties. I have actually been on the receiving end on many of Ashley’s “post walk” snapchats where she walks several miles to keep active! There is always a way to get yourself motivated, try to reach out to others if you need motivation. Hope you all enjoyed my interview with Ashley! Leave your comments below on how YOU are holding up in quarantine in regards to fitness. Are you staying active? If so, how? How has this effected your physical and mental health?
