Hey all! This post is dedicated to analyzing a blog post from a blog called “Flat Tummy Lifestyle.” This post, and the blog in general focuses on using supplements for fitness and diet purposes.
I strongly disagree with the points made in this blog post as well as flat tummy teas in general. Here’s why.
What is Flat Tummy Tea?
This blog post explains flat tummy tea as a tea that helps “cleanse the digestive system.” While this is a true statement, there are faults in it. Yes, flat tummy tea will “cleanse” your digestive system and you will most likely appear thinner in your mid section, however, this is a very unhealthy way of trying to loose weight or just promote a healthy lifestyle. Flat tummy tea essentially works like a laxative. So, obviously weight loss will happen but if you stop using this tea, your results will go back to normal because you never lost any fat in your abdominal region, it was all stool.
Bloating w/ Flat Tummy Tea
This post says that flat tummy tea will kick the bloat that comes with “eating out way too often and not being kind to your body.” Again, it will essentially push the waste from over eating and unhealthy habits right out of your system like a laxative. If your main goal is to have a “flatter tummy” or just be healthier, following bad habits like eating out often or eating junk is not the way to go about it. correcting bad habits with supplements is really damaging to the body. You are essentially giving your body fuel and then its passing right through you.
Practice Balance
I am a huge advocate for balance when it comes to eating. What this tea promotes is completely wrong in my opinion. As I mentioned before, this post says you can eat out all the time and be unkind to your body but don’t worry, the tea will correct it. Wrong. Practice eating healthy foods that your body needs. This does not by any means mean cutting out “bad” foods. This post essentially glorifies eating poorly and correcting it with supplements. You can instead, eat healthy but treat yourself! Having a salad and a black bean burger patty for lunch? Enjoy a brownie after. Balance is key! Eating kale every day isn’t many people’s cup of tea and that’s okay! On the flip side, eating brownies all day is also not okay and you shouldn’t try to correct this with supplements.
Society and Body Image
Another thing that bothers me about this flat tummy tea craze is the fact that it shines light on and glorifies the “ideal” stereotypical body. It paints this picture that everyone (especially women) should look like a highly edited sports illustrated model from a 2008 magazine. There are so many versions of beauty and I believe that flat tummy tea gives people the wrong idea and makes them think that their bodies are not “good enough” or unworthy and this is simply false.
Takeaways
Flat Tummy Tea is a no go for me. I don’t believe in the beauty standards it promotes as well as the unhealthy habits it encourages. This tea is very damaging to your body and should not be used. Incorporating healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, and proteins such as edamame and nuts into your diet is so much more important than trying to abide to society’s beauty standards. Your health comes first and flat tummy tea is not a good choice for those looking for a healthier life style.
